Methodology & Sources

Where the watch feeds get their news, and how items are captured, tagged and curated before they reach a dashboard or report. A source counted twice here is read by more than one feed.

How it works

  1. Capture

Scheduled jobs read each active source's public RSS or Atom feed, or its structured data service (for example the CISA KEV catalog, NVD, Launch Library 2, Space-Track and NOAA space weather). Space Watch, TJFSCC Daily and Cyber Watch refresh three times a day. AI Trends refreshes once, before dawn HST. Duplicates are removed by canonical URL.

  2. Tag

A rule-based tagger matches each item against a keyword taxonomy (whole words, with headline hits weighted higher). It assigns the item's section: the P and dimension for TJFSCC Daily, the mission area for Space Watch, the lane for Cyber Watch. It also adds joint function, COCOM, country and topic tags. Items below a source's score threshold are dropped. The dashboards show the tag names; the definitions behind them stay internal.

  3. Curate

Once a day an AI model (Claude, from Anthropic) reviews each feed's tagged candidates. It confirms or corrects the tags, picks the items that matter, and writes the bottom line up front and the watch list, working only from captured items. AI Trends is curated this way directly from full-text newsletters.

  4. Publish

Dashboards rebuild after every capture run. TJFSCC Daily also publishes a two-page daily report (HTML, PDF and Word). Space Watch, Cyber Watch and AI Trends publish a weekly report.

Source standards

  • Reputable sources only, in three tiers: official releases, established press and data services, and think tanks. Think tanks are capped per issue.
  • Every item links to the original article, and the brief cites its sources. Captured article text is never republished.
  • National and regional news wires must hit a real security topic, not just a country name, and are capped per day.
  • Only public feeds and data services are read. A source that can't be read reliably is paused and listed below with the reason and, where one exists, what covers the gap.

What stays internal

  • Taxonomy definitions, keyword cues and scoring thresholds.
  • Curation prompts and the capture code.
  • The captured article store.

This page is generated from the same source registries the capture jobs read, and it rebuilds whenever one of them changes.
